The rain is back again but it has brought better fishing conditions with a superb catch of ten carp by George Osbourn who had a 24hour session in swim two, the best being 14lb12oz  15lb 8oz and the new lake record a fine common at 22lb this carp was stocked July 2007 at 14lb, all  were caught on boilies and corn. Gorges father landed a further two carp from swim one. Most anglers landed carp this week up to the mid teens.

At long last some nice sunny weather bringing out an abundance of dragon flies. Phil Stanley took advantage of the weather by landing 7 nice doubles from swim 8 these fish were feeding & basking in the bay on the left , James Sendell landed a nice 16lb common. Fishing has been nice and steady with some nice doubles regularly landed.

Saturday 5th July was a terrible day for the weather with heavy rain and wind all day and night, but eight anglers braved it out with Dave Roberts landing the first 20lb 4oz carp this was one of five he landed, the other four were doubles up to 15lb 5oz all taken on corn and furzebraylakes boilies. Several fish up to 14lb were landed over the weekend..

One fish likes to be caught a 14lb mirror was landed for the second time by Tony . This fish was 11lb when stocked in November 2007 and was 13lb on 20/04/08 and 14lb on the14/06/08. again showing the rapid growth of these carp, this was one of four doubles landed and two fish lost. Phil Stanley lost two good carp after a real battle both leaping out of the water and throwing the hooks but he was rewarded with five nice carp to 13lb on his next visit. Rob Falkner landed his personal best a 16lb common from swim two just before he had to leave, the swim was then taken by Gary Boyles who landed two doubles in the first hour landing two more the next morning. Some anglers have taken a hour of the specimen lake and fished Pads Pool catching small carp and rud.

The fishing has been steady over the last two weeks with George Osbourne from Bristol landed six carp on the 11th three which were doubles, Dave Rothery caught three doubles on poacher's boilies. On the 16th Paul Hamilton and Hiram Garon from Exeter Angling landed four fish three were doubles. From the 16th  to 18th Jared Lewington from Ashburton saw five doubles on the bank and Martin Radford enjoyed a restful three day break finishing his stay with a 17lb 14oz common, over the bank holiday weekend Tim Hobs & Jamie Pincombe landed doubles up to 13lb 12oz. Both Jamie and David Fewings braved the Sunday storm but  struggled to cope with the wind and waves.

The opening weekend was a little slow to start with but soon picked up as the weekend went on, and those trying different tactics having the best results. The weather held off for the BBQ in the evening much to the relief of everyone as they enjoyed sausages burgers and a cold beer.

The heaviest fish of the weekend fell to Dave Roberts a Mirror of 14lb from the point. Also getting in on the action was Mario and Steve from Exeter both catching doubles from swims 4 & 2. To round of the weekend a couple from Exeter Dominick & Jo had two 12lb Mirrors from swim 2 with Tim Donovan managing to take two fish from swim 1 at 11lb & 9lb. Later in the week David Fewings landed a beautiful 18lb zip linner & a 19lb 8oz common, these fish where stocked at 13lb & 14lb July 2007.

A few days prior to the opening Tony Kingdon fishery manager caught a 15lb 8oz Mirror. This fish was stocked in July 2007 at 8lb.

OPENING DAY !!

Furzebray Lakes added the final stock to the top specimen lake ready to open May 2008. The last 65 Mirror Carp were added to the main lake on Wednesday the 28th November and are all doing well..
