The fishing went off in the early part of last week with the cold and frosty  snap but on Wednesday with milder weather the carp started to feed again with Jez Stephenson staying in Oak View Lodge fishing peg 4 landing his first fish and on Thursday bagged three more they where Black Spot at 27lb 8oz a 22lb 3oz/ 16.8lb / 14lb. Dan Coffey landed one of two ghosties in the lake at 20lb 4oz again peg 4. Martin Cox put in 24hrs in peg 9 to land 6 fish the best being a 23lb 8oz linear, at one stage he had two fish on at the same time and successfully landed both. As I returned from a walk around this afternoon a angler from Bristol a first time visitor reported that he had landed a 27lb 7oz mirror from peg 4 and another angler had taken a 16 lb fish from peg 1 so over all the fishing has been very good for January.

It's been a bit hectic lately here at Furzebray a new lake being built and the main lake has been netted.  Before we netted Martin Cox fished two sessions and landed 7 fish the best being 20lb 4oz/ 21lb 8oz  from peg 9 and other notable carp landed where a 21lb mirror and a 22lb 12oz mirror from pegs 1 & 2.   The new lake is progressing well and is nearing completion and has been stocked 270 carp up to 14lb with 120 of them from VS Fisheries                     ( Viv Shears & Simon Scott) these carp are between 2 & 3lb. The main specimen lake has been netted and most of the fish under 14lb have been transferred to the new lake but we have left a few superbly marked home grown carp that are growing fast, there is now abought 140 carp in the main lake. Notable fish netted where Charlotte 35lb 8oz / Peanut 30lb 8oz / Black Spot 27lb 8oz / Angies common 27lb 8oz / The Mint Common 26lb. and there where numerous perch up to 3lb. We must say thank you to all the lads that came to help us and many thanks to Mainstream Fisheries who did the netting. The specimen lake is now refilled and available to fish please phone to book and try to set a new lake record for both the mirror and the commons. There is a lot of pictures of the new lake and the netting and some of the best fish on Face book follow the link.

Jez Stephenson staying in Oak View land 5 carp of 21lb, 22lb 8oz, 23lb, 18lb 12oz, & 19lb and also had some good sport spinning for perch. Lee & Anjie Hubbard had 5 fish between them all doubles to 19lb. We have now started to fence the new lake area against otters and the excavations will start at the end of October, so if all goes well we will open the new lake in the spring 2012. August once again proved to be a tough month for the anglers with the fish proving hard to come by, but as the month drew to a close so the fishing improved. Colin Rutter was in the Lawn swim (peg 2) and took full advantage of the better fishing landing 5 fish including a stunning 26lb 14oz mirror, several other nice doubles to 19lb where landed the same weekend. Alan Johnson staying in lake view managed 5 fish including two nice 20's at 21lb & 22lb 14oz. The same week saw Charlotte banked at 32lb 14oz by Konrad Kordasiewicz along with 2 other nice doubles from the Inlet. Last week Mr Mockford and his mate got into some nice fish the best by far was the capture of The Mint Common at 25lb 6oz (pic right) from the Point on sweet corn. This week has started with another nice fish Star at 22lb 8oz, all the fish seem to gaining weight ready for the winter and the bigger fish are on the munch so i hope to see some more big fish captures over the next month or so. Most fish still falling to Furzebray boilies and Mainline boilies fished with pellet.

04/08/2011

There has been some good fishing through July with several multiple catches, Charlie Puttick and his mate landed 8 fish from pegs 5&6 the best was a new PB for his mate at 18lb 14oz. Adam Langabear and his friends booked the lake for the whole weekend ( £280 ) and after a slow start the fishing picked up with a final tally of 15 fish. This  included 4  20,s two of which were a double hook-up in peg 2 resulting in a brace of 22lb 8oz mirrors. They also landed some stunning upper doubles all pictures can be seen on the Facebook page.  Charlotte was on the bank at 33lb 6oz this is a great weight for here at this time of the year so come the autumn she could well be 35lb+. Ed landed one of the most stunning fish i have seen this season from peg 1 weighing 17lb this was a fish i stocked in 07 at 3lb!!! and one i am sure will be 20+ next year can't wait. (Ed's fish pic) The last 10 days have been hot and the fishing has been slower but Bill Osborne managed to winkle a few out to stalking methods the best just short of 20lb, His Dad manage to bank 3 from peg one the best was a 21lb mirror. Most fish falling to Furzebray Boilies and Mainline boilies fished with pellet.

The good fishing has continued over the last two weeks with several good catches being had. Chris Blythe managed to bank three  20,s in his session which is the first time this has been done. Chris landed Peanut at 26lb 12oz, The Mint common 23lb 8oz, and Drop Scale 21lb (pic above at 24lb 4), all the fish where slightly down in weight after spawning but looking in excellent condition. Jez finished his holiday with 15 fish in total from peg 6. Alan Phippen landed two nice fish from peg 8 the best was a stunning half lin at 18lb 8oz (pic). Mark Downing and his mate had a good weekend in swims 5 & 6 landing 12 fish to just over 20lb. Most of the fish are falling to boilies & pellet the best seems to be Furzebray boilies and  mainline Cell & New Grange.

Since the last report the fishing has been very good with Stuart Hutchins landing a beautiful zip linear at 21lb 8oz. another angler had 7 takes and landed 5 from peg 3  on the 13th, followed by the mint common weighing in at 24lb 8oz after spawning from peg 2, this last weekend saw 14 fish out with Jez Stephenson banking 6 carp in the first 24 hr of his holiday the best being 22lb/ 19lb 12oz/ 19lb 7oz and has now landed 9 carp to date, The Nokes family down on holiday on our camp site have also made a good start with all 3 of them having good fish on the bank, with John Nokes landing a 21lb fish. The carp really seem to be on the munch this week. Pads fished well on Saturday with anglers from Bristol having some good sport.

There has been good fishing over the last two weeks with a stunning carp being landed by the Kirby's here on a camping holiday. Breaking his PB a lovely mirror at 26lb 8oz, this fish was stocked on the 23rd August 2007 at 7lb. and this was only the second time it has been caught, the last was in July 2009 at 14lb 8oz. Bill Osborne on peg 2 had a three fish catch 23lb 10oz, 21lb 8oz & a 17lb all mirrors. Danny Causon banked a nice 20lb 1oz from peg 2. Mr David Johnson was staying in Oak View lodge had some smaller carp and a good catch of Perch on maggot. Last week then turned very hot for a few days and the carp spawned ripping up the weed in the corners and bays.

25/05/2011

Peanut is the best fish out since the last report at 27lb 12oz. Carl King of Wychwood Tackle landed a brace of 22lb mirrors, and at least seven nice carp up to the low twenty's have been landed from pegs 9 & 10 and a further two new unseen 20lb mirrors have been banked, this should bring the numbers of 20lb fish up  in the region of 40 all the fish are still showing  good growth rates. Over the last week the wind has not been pleasant at times but it was noted that when it rained the carp came on to feed with Stuart Hutchins and his partner landing up to 10 carp from 5lb upwards from the farm house end some of which are home bred and well marked fish using Furzebray boilies and Maggots.

30/04/2011

The fishing has been good over the holiday period with most anglers landing fish. Stuart Hutchins fishing peg 6 landing 7 carp toping his catch with Charlotte on the bank again for the fourth time this season at 33lb 8oz caught on Furzebray boilies. Mr Trick & Mr Manning banked 5 fish from pegs 9 & 10 to just over 20lb. Furzebray boilies and mainline cell fished over pellet has accounted for most of the fish.

Charlotte has been landed for the second time this spring and is packing on the pounds as the water begins to warm up, caught by Angie Hubbard at 33lb 8oz a new lake record, Angie now hold the records for the best mirror and the best common, the record for the common could have been broken if Lee had not lost a very big common at the net he estimated that it could have toped 27/28lb.The common record is defiantly there to be broken this year. Over all the fishing has been good over the last 10 days with some notable carp landed. Angie with Charlotte and a 17lb mirror Lee with a 21lb 6oz mirror. Chris Hutchins 20lb 10oz, 24lb 4oz, 16lb 10oz mirrors. Stuart Hutchins 15lb 12oz and 14lb 12oz, Jack Bazeley 21lb 4oz, 18lb 10oz. Mike Leach had three carp the best being 18lb Another 23lb.2oz mirror was also on the bank, and several more smaller carp have  been been landed, spring is now well on the way and some  good carp fishing should be had with warm weather forecast for the next week.

23/03/2011

There was lovely weather and good fishing  over  the weekend for the Not 4 Noddies  match. Charlotte was the biggest fish of the weekend tipping the scales at 32lb 4oz  not bad after the long cold winter. 13 fish where landed in all, John Kneebone had the best with a brace on the bank of Charlotte and a 14lb  fully scaled Peg 2 he also landed a 17lb 12oz mirror. Two other mirrors at 22lb 8oz  & 21lb 8oz where also  banked by Adam and Jack. Danny Trant fishing peg 10 with chopped worm found some nice Perch 2lb 4oz 2lb & 1lb 7oz nice fish so this summer should see some good Perch fishing while you wait for one of our stunning Carp to come along. Bob Lewingdon followed on in peg 2 and in the morning had his hands full as he had two fish on but by the time some assistance arrived one was lost but the other mirror carp hit the scales at 24lb. Well done all.

20/02/2011

Some nice carp have come to the  net over the last few weeks and  they have started to show well on some of the milder days, the best  carp landed this week was Star at  23lb 1oz landed from peg 4. Star was last caught in September 2010 at 20lb 8oz, if the rest of the Carp have continued to grow like Star then there should be some good twenties on the bank this year, Jason Hammond had a really good session in gale force conditions landing four mirrors all between 14.8lb to 18lb. We have just built three new landing platforms to improve the landing of fish and casting to swims 1. 4 & 5 see pic of 5.

Jason Hammond‎14lb 6oz totally stunning was'nt a massive carp but god it was beautiful!!!!

17/01/2011

The first Carp of the year have been landed by John Scoble the best being 23lb 7oz mirror this fish has put on 3lb 7oz since Feb 2010, John also landed a 18lb 4oz mirror and a 16lb 8oz mirror. Several fish have been spotted in the margins feeding and the water has colored up. The heavy warmer rain of the last week has got them moving and I hope that we don't get any more hard frost to close us down again.

29/12/2010

Winter is here early this year and the last two anglers had to give up early because they were frozen up in the morning at -7 they must have been cold that was nearly three weeks ago now and there is no sign of the lake thawing out and they are forecasting more snow and ice for this weekend, we will post a report on the news page and on facebook when the lake is clear to fish again. We wish all our anglers a Merry Christmas and Happy new year from all at Furzebray Carp Lakes.

14/10/2010

Mike Leach has landed two stunning 20's  the best was the Big Zip at 21lb 4oz and the other was 21lb 2oz. he landed six carp in all from peg 2. All the fish fell to boilies. The fish have been very shy when feeding so give your rigs some thought if you want to trip one up!!  There was  11more fish out through the week the best being Star at 20lb 8oz last out in April 09 at 17lb. Ian Stapleton staying in Island View Lodge landed three nice doubles over his stay Pic Mike Leach

21lb 2oz

27/09/2010

The last two weeks has seen several good fish on the bank as the fishing improves, the best was The Mint Common from peg 9 at 23lb 8oz by Mr Baddock and a 20lb 8oz common by Stuart Morrish from peg 4. There was also two nice mirrors landed  19lb 8oz by Dany Trant and a 19lb 2oz mirror by Jack? a linear of 17lb landed by Phil the Bream and the catches keep coming as several fish in there mid and early teens hit the bank. Maggots now seem to be valuable in the variety of baits to be used as it was last year in late September and October but the big fish still seem to fall to Furzebray boilies, and of coarse not to forget that some very nice Perch have been brought to the net up to 2lb 8oz and are now getting to a size worth having a go for. Just in news that Lee Rolls has just kicked of his weeks fishing with two good doubles landed.

25/08/2010

The last few weeks has seen some fantastic fish on the bank, Charlotte was banked at a record weight of  32lb 9oz by Kevin Curtis from peg 4 on chopped boilies. A nice 21lb 14oz two tone mirror was landed along with an 18lb mirror from pegs 5 & 6 by Brendon and Daniel Isac. There was also another nice 21lb12oz mirror landed from peg 6. Lee Chipperfield fished peg 2 and landed 3 nice fish, 2mid doubles and a cracking 22lb 10oz mirror ( Fish pictured ). And at last it was nice to see Phil Stanly back amongst the fish with 3 from peg 1 topped by a stunning fully scaled just under 15lb. All baits seem to be producing at the moment along with Furzebray boilies.

22lb 10oz

23/07/2010

Furzebray lakes now provides all unhooking  mats and nets for use  on the fishery.

At last the Carp have decided to come on the feed this week Mark Turner  and Mr Hemsley made a start with a 15lb and two 17lb  mirrors from pegs 1&2.  Brian Ford landed today a stunning linear at 21lb 4oz which was the biggest of five fish landed from peg 8 on corn float fished. John Scoble has had a good day with 4 carp up to 18lb 3oz so far all taken on hemp peg 5. generally the carp  seem to be preferring the smaller baits although Mr Mills has lost two lumps fishing boilies and he has landed 3 other fish corn & boilies.

21lb4oz

04/07/2010

The fishing over the last two weeks has been a little patchy at times but a very nice linear of 20lb was landed buy Lee Rolls along with a 6lb mirror and a 13lb fully scaled, his partner Anjie Hubbard banked carp of 14lb & 12lb. John Scoble netted a fine mirror of 25lb 4oz, Matt Lester landed a fully scaled of 16lb & Adam Murch a fully scaled at 12lb.10oz. Kevin Pitfield netted a 18lb.11oz mirror. There has been a few really good fish lost around the snags and it was reported that a nice Perch was landed around 2lb so I think there is going to be some good sport fishing for some perch in the future using maggots whilst waiting for the wily carp. Although boilies always appear to be the favorite bait an Furzebrays own do well, of late sweet corn over a particle bed seems to be the bait more in favor with the carp ,so in practice it pays to use different baits and tactics on each rod to tempt the fish.

Well at last after two very difficult weeks of fishing since they spawned they have come to feed over the last 24 hours with Peanut toping the catches at 27lb 10oz followed by a beautiful 25lb 7oz common both landed by Gary Cure from peg 8 under the overflow reeds, another three carp were taken from peg two all in there teens. Jes Stevenson on the first day of his weeks holiday in Oak View with three carp landed and a big fish lost the best being 19lb 3 oz. Earlier in the week the fishing was hard but anglers still managed to land a few fish one landing two or three perch along with a teen carp, and Phil Stanley managed two mirror on Wednesday and Thursday night.

19/05/2010

Well what a couple of weeks its been, after a stunning lake record common at the beginning of the month the 20's just keep coming. There has been 4 out since Saturday the best being a stunning 24lb 8oz mirror landed by Dave Rothery who also landed mirrors of  22lb 4oz & 17lb. Marcus Bagg managed 4 mirrors on a quick night session  topped by a 21lb 8oz and a 19lb 8oz taken on furzebray boilies. Dave Bartholomew staying in Lake View has started his week with mirrors of 22lb & 19lb 1oz on Furzebray boilies and the Cell. Dave Bedford had a good 4 day session landing 9 fish to 18lb 12oz from peg 10.  Our only true Leather was landed by an angler fishing peg 6 at 20lb this is a truly stunning fish which i hope keeps growing. (our own Little Heather) There has been lots of doubles landed this week with most anglers getting in on the action. No signs of them spawning yet but I'm sure it wont be long.

Over the last week there has been some superb carp landed despite the cold northerly winds, notably the 25lb 8oz common landed by Angela Hubbard, and  Colin Barker who had two mirror carp 21lb &22lb on the bank,  and  a mirror of 17lb, Nick Thorn  landed two mirrors at 21lb & 17lb. Angela Hubbard on swim 9 who caught the 25lb 8oz Common at 1.30am also had five other  fish in the net  18lb / 15lb 8oz / 15lb and a 15lb 2oz all mirrors & a common at 14lb 12oz. Angela's partner Lee Rolls on swim 10 landed three mirrors 10lb 14lb & 15lb + a 13lb.12oz fully scaled. Phil Goode had two mirrors from 8  at 15lb 4oz & /17lb 2oz. Two other carp where landed from swim 5 and Phil Stanley swim 3 at last broke his run of blanks with a lovely 14lb 8oz ghost carp, Pete Robinson had a disappointing start to his session but a move from swim 2 down to swim 10 and rewarded him self  with a 19lb mirror. It has been reported by all the anglers that the carp where all in superb condition and are still piling on the weight, not surprising considering the feast they are having on tadpoles I have never seen so many, the margins are black with them around most of the lake.

The fishing has improved with the change of weather conditions and the first fish have been viewed topping in the middle of the day when its warmest. Some nice fish in there teens have been landed over the last two week including a twenty using sweet corn and boilies, Furzebray's boilies are available at £8.50 kg .The time of year has arrived and all the birds are getting excited with the longer days and the Carp are starting to feed, one angler loosing one and landing one within a hour of arrival on Saturday. Ian from Exeter Angling after fishing Pads for the day landing several nice small carp put in a hour at peg 2 with one rod and had several liners and lost one. At last they have arrived two beautiful mirror carp courtesy of Viv Shears and Simon Scott. These two fish weighed in at 26lb 8oz and just under 27lb, both fish are of a fast growing strain and should hopefully be pushing the 30lb barrier sometime this year. This now brings the Furzebray stock of 20lb + fish into double figures so now with the onset of spring we hope to see some of these specimens on the bank. TIGHT LINES.
